TOEFL iBT Independent Writing Drills Which do you prefer, to be a pet dog, or to be a free bird as your reincarnation?

Drill 1  Which of the answers below is more appropriate as an answer to the following question: Which do you prefer, to be a pet dog, or to be a free bird as your reincarnation? How can you improve the other one?

Answer A: Both being a pet dog and being a free bird have advantages and disadvantages, but I choose to be a pet dog as my reincarnation. If you are someone’s pet, you have no problem with food and safety. You are fed every day and have a comfortable bed or a house in which you can avoid elements such as winds and rain. You can even be vaccinated and stay healthy. Also, people like dogs, so you can live a happy life. Whenever you meet people, they talk to you or pet you gently. You can also learn tricks and communicate with your owner. That would be fun. Actually, I have a dog, and we have been together since he was born. We are like brother and sister, and I like this relationship. Therefore, if I could be born again as an animal, I would definitely choose to be a house dog.

Answer B: Which would you choose, freedom or security? I would like to live in the wild, even though it is tough. Life of a pet is not precarious. It ensures enough food and sleep free from predators. On the other hand, there is little freedom. You are on a chain, and you are under the command of your humans. In the case of a free bird, things are vice versa. You can follow the call of nature, but you may die young after having little time of leisure. Although I want to live a long and happy life and I would love warm relationships a pet dog can have with humans, I would rather have freedom. Without it, nothing is real because what prevents us from freedom is fiction shared by humans. Only humans are willing to be in the prison of the fiction. If you are an animal, you ought to be unfettered.
