Lesson 27 (2月14日分)の以下の2問の解答解説が間違っていたので訂正いたします。

1． Lesson 27 Step 1-2 (p. 27)  Question 2

The Egyptians believed that its life after death was like life on earth.

（誤）B its life→life 又はtheir life 又はtheir lives

（正）B its life→life 又はtheir life 又はtheir lives

理由 their livesとした場合、下線Cのwasと数が合わなくなります。

尚、下線Dのearth（地球）はtheがつく場合と付かない場合の両方があるので間違っていません。

2． Lesson 27 Step 1-2 (p. 27)  Question 6

Some of the greatest Pharaohs who had been buried in huge, pointed buildings called “pyramids.”

（誤）D→had been called またはwere called

（正）B→had beenまたはwere

理由 この文には述語動詞（V）がないので、修飾部の動詞を述語動詞として機能させる必要があります。

修飾部の動詞は、

下線B who had beenのbeenと下線D called “の二つがありますが、文意から下線Bを述語動詞部分にするのが正しいと分かります。

それぞれを述語動詞にした場合の文と訳は以下の通りです。

（誤）下線Dを述語動詞にした場合。

Some of the greatest Pharaohs who had been buried in huge, pointed buildings had been (were) called “pyramids.”

巨大な尖った建築物に埋葬されていた最も偉大なファラオの中には「ピラミッド」と呼ばれていた

（呼ばれ）た者もいた。

（正）下線Bを述語動詞にした場合。

Some of the greatest Pharaohs had been buried in huge, pointed buildings called “pyramids.”

最も偉大なファラオの中には「ピラミッド」と呼ばれた巨大な尖った建築物に埋葬されていた者もいた。
