Thermometer
Thermometer is an i t to measure temperature a ly. It u es some physical change when
e ed to a change in
temperature. An ordinary thermometer is a long glass tube with a number scale
on it which contains a l d.
The length of the liquid changes when temperature changes. The first
thermometer was an air thermometer invented by Galileo in 1592. It was an egg-shaped
glass bulb whose one end t ed
into a long, thin tube with an open mouth. Galileo heated the bulb slightly to e d the air so that some of it would f w out of the bulb. Then he placed
the bulb opening in water by holding the device u e down, which made some water
went into the tube when the bulb cooled. Higher temperature warmed the air and pushed
the water down and when temperature dropped, the water r e up because the air in the tube c ed. The air thermometer had no
s e and was affected by air p e. Gabriel Daniel Fahrenheit d ped the first accurate thermometer in
1714. It was a small glass bulb with a very thin tube s led at the end and contained some m y instead of water
