Drills

Drill 1  Which of the two responses to the following statement is more appropriate? Hybrid teaching, a combination of teaching in person and online done at the same time, must be made compulsory.

A. I agree with the statement that hybrid teaching must be made compulsory. There are three reasons. First, students who cannot go to school for various reasons such as living in remote areas, suffering from bullying, or having physical problems can join classes. Second, new businesses will be created. To make hybrid teaching effective, new equipment and application will be needed. This will stimulate the economy. Finally, teachers should be prepared to teach in crisis, such as the next pandemic or other disasters. Therefore, it is a good thing to mandate hybrid teaching.

B. I cannot totally agree with the idea of making hybrid teaching mandatory. On the one hand, hybrid classes are inclusive. During the pandemic, some students found online classes comfortable and became better learners. On the other hand, while hybrid classes are neither new nor troublesome in universities and high schools, they are technically difficult to give in grade schools. Most class contents in advanced and intermediate classes, such as written texts and discussion, are adapted to the online environment, but fundamental classes require hand-made supplement. Also, it is difficult to keep both types of pupils focused simultaneously. Therefore, hybrid classes should be elective, and class supplement should be sent to fundamental online class students beforehand.
