1.     Machines are good at calculation, repetition, dealing with a huge amount of data, tasks that require accuracy and speed, working nonstop for long hours, and doing dangerous jobs.

2.     Machines lack flexibility. They need electricity. They don’t care about life. They can malfunction. They can also be manipulated by malware.

3.     Google lists of specific occupations in higher demand in the future:

Specialists of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), data scientists, software developers, information security analysts, renewable energy specialists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and mental health professionals

4.     Arts and music can be in higher in demand. Comedians can be more popular than now.

1.      Computer specialists will always be in demand because it will always be humans that will control and improve machines.

2.      We need more renewable energy specialists as climate crisis is in progress. To soften the impact of it or, if possible, stop it, we need to handle global warming, which is an issue that requires decisively effective renewable energy.

3.      The global population will keep increasing for more decades and ailment will increase as pollution increases. Thus, medical personnel will increase.

4.      Mental health specialists will be needed more than now because the number of people suffering from mental health disorder is on the increase. The causes of mental diseases such as stress and loss of nature will even increase.

5.      Artists will be in higher demand. AI will never produce real arts because they don’t have human mind. As the world gets digitized, humans will appreciate arts more than now.

6.      Comedians and satirists will be precious because machines cannot acquire a sense of humor―even some humans never understand humor. Skills to make humans laugh will never be copied by machines. Hence, humor and jobs to make people laugh will be popular more than now.

【Thesis】Mainly along the line of Amy and Leon, I think garbage collectors will be higher in demand in that their jobs require a property that robots and AI will never have: care about life.

【Supporting Details】No matter how much garbage-collection trucks are automated, humans to watch the content of the garbage bin must be present during operation. For instance, when something that should not be in a garbage bin such as a baby that is too frail to cry out loud, a body part, or a dead animal is in there, a machine may have no problem executing its job because its purpose is to attain the goal that is programmed in it. A human hunch can tell something is wrong when machines don’t detect any anomaly. Unlike machines, a human has a heart, so life or a remain of life would be spotted and dealt with properly.

【Counterargument-treatment】In terms of the demand of garbage collection itself, there is no doubt. We cannot live without producing trash and garbage, and the global population is expected to increase until the mid-2080’s.
