Imagine that you are preparing for a trip. You plan to be away from you home for a year. In addition to clothing and personal care items, you can take one additional thing. What would you take and why? Use specific reasons and details to support your choice.

旅の支度をしているところを想像して下さい。1年間故郷を離れる予定です。衣類と身の回り品に加えて、一つだけ付け加えて持っていくことができます。何を持ってゆきますか？何故ですか？あなたの選択を支持するために具体的な理由と詳細を使って下さい。

 

 

☆Let’s Think  考えてみよう

A similar question is what would you take if you are allowed to take one item to a deserted island. By answering these questions, you can express your value, interest, and personality. What is the most important thing for you? What are you most interested in? What kind of person are you?

同様の質問は無人島にひとつ持って行くことを許されたら何を持って行くかというものだ。これらの質問に答えることで、自分の価値観や興味、人格を表現できる。自分にとって最も重要なものは何ですか？何に最も興味がありますか？あなたはどんな人ですか？

Thanks to the development of technology, we can take almost all the necessities in our smartphone these days. What is the thing that a phone cannot carry? What makes you feel easy? What helps you (to) make friends with the local people?

科学技術の進歩のおかげで、最近は必要なもののほとんどすべてをスマホに入れて持ち運ぶことができる。スマホが運べないものは何だろう？楽な気持にしてくれるものは何ですか？地元の人たちと友達になるのを助けてくれるのは何ですか？

1.     I would take my pet dog. Raised together, we are like siblings.

ペットの犬を連れてゆく。一緒に育てられて、私たちは兄弟姉妹のようだ。

2.     My favorite book would be the item I would take for the trip. It would help me (to) stay cool.

自分のお気に入りの本が私が旅に持って行くであろう品物です。私が平静を保つのを助けてくれるでしょう。

3.     My family photo is always with me wherever I go. In case I lose access to the Internet, I can see the faces of my family if I have it in my purse.

どこに行くにも私の家族写真は私と共にあります。インターネットに繋がれない場合、写真をお財布に入れていれば家族の顔を見ることができます。

【Introduction = Outline】If I took a one-year trip and take one additional thing with me, I would choose to take a guitar for the following reasons.

【Conclusion = Wrap-up】For the reasons above, I would take a guitar for a one-year trip

 

 

☆Sample Paragraph Development  段落展開例

【Main Idea】If I took a guitar with me for the trip, I would be able to enjoy music with the people of the place I am visiting and make friends with them.

【Supporting Details】Although I cannot play the guitar, I am sure there are people who play guitar everywhere. Therefore, if I had a chance to mingle with the local people, I would ask one of them to play some music. The person may play a popular song or a traditional song. Whichever, everyone can enjoy listening to or singing along the music. We can know each other better, and it would be a great memory.

【Conclusion】Music allows interactions without language, and a guitar would help it.

【主張】旅行にギターを持ってゆけば、訪問先の人々と音楽を楽しみ友達になることができるだろう。
